For the release week of 8/18 there was 7 Blu-ray releases of interest. Two from Scream Factory, one from Artsploitation Films, one from Warner Archive, one from Kino Lobber, and two from Severin Films. Here they are:
The first release of interest this week is Nomads. The film is released by Scream Factory and is the first of two releases of interest from Scream Factory this week. This films seems to have a reputation of being very polarizing. Some people love it and a good amount of people hate it. The one thing that most people agree on is that it is a very well made film. The story of the film follows a French anthropologist who is an expert on nomads. He eventually stumbles upon a group of urban nomads who turn out to be a lot more different than he expected. Overall it sounds like a decent film with a big twist ending. Might be worth checking out for the quality of the filmmaking.

The second release of interest this week, and the second from Scream Factory, is Ejecta. This film is an IFC Midnight collaboration release. As with a a good chunk of other IFC Midnight films, this film has average reviews overall but has the potential to find an audience. The story of the film is two guys fighting for their lives during one universe changing night. One of the men is a person who has had decades of extraterrestrial encounters and now lives a life in perpetual paranoia and fear. The other man is a paranormal researcher that the other man invites to his home in the woods. Once the two are there crazy life altering things begin to happen. Overall the film has an interesting storyline that should appeal to those that enjoy alien abduction/extraterrestrial terror type of films.

The third release of interest of this week comes from Artsploitation Films and it is Cub. The story of the film is a group of cub scouts and their young cub scout leaders go into the woods for a camping trip. Along the way the leaders try to put some fear in the young cub scouts by exclaiming that there is a werewolf that lives in this parts of the woods. The group soon discover that there is no werewolf but perhaps something even more deadly, a young feral boy and his evil mentor. The members of the group begin to get killed of as the others try to stay alive against these evil killers in the woods. Overall an interesting premise that will likely appeal to fans of slasher films and camp based horror films.

The next title of interest released this week is The Hunger and it comes out from Warner Archive. This is another one of those films that at the time of release didn't garner too much positive attention but has now found a solid cult following. The story of the film is a love triangle between a vampire couple and a doctor who specializes in aging research. In the end the film sports a great cast and direction from Tony Scott. The erotic horror film is likely to appear to fans of the more sensual and dramatic takes on vampire lore.

The next release of interest this week is Burn Witch Burn which is released by Kino Lorber. This is a classic fright fest that follows a man who is having unusual success at his job recently. Soon he discovers that it might have been caused by the magic that his wife has been engaging in. Being skeptical of the magic the husband destroys some of his wife's materials that turned out to be protective spells. Destroying the protective spells has lead a vindictive to put his the couples lives in danger. In the end the film seems to be a lot of fun and a classic slice of 1960's horror. This should should appeal to fans of classic horror.

The first of two releases of interest this week from Severin films is Nightmare Castle. The film stars Barbara Steele as two different characters. The first character is a a cheating wife who is tortured then killed by her sadistic scientist husband. Then she plays the role of that characters stepsister whose fate may be even worse. Sounds like an interesting shocker that was likely more shocking for the time than it is now. This release is a good deal because it comes with two bonus films, Castle of Blood and Terror Creatures From the Grave, also staring Barbara Steele. The main film in this release will likely appeal to fans of classic black and white horror.
Available for purchase here: Nightmare Castle
The last release of interest for this week is also the second release of interest put out this week by Severin Films. This double feature release sports two cannibal films, Devil Hunter from Jess Franco and Cannibal Terror. Both of these are films that will likely appeal to only a select audience. Both films are sleazy and trashy. They are both filled with tons of nudity, gut munching, and a bunch of other tasteless mayhem. Overall these films are not for everyone but the people who are interested in these types of films will likely find a lot to enjoy about this release.
