Blu-ray Releases Of Interest For 8/11/15

Every week Scream Blu Fans! showcases the Blu-ray releases of the week that interest us and we think will interest you. Check out this weeks releases of interest below:

For the release date of 8/11 there was six Blu-ray releases of interest. One from Scream Factory, two from Code Red, one from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and one from Universal Studios. Here they are:

The first Blu-ray release of interest for this week is a personal favorite of mine. Released this week by  Scream Factory as a Collector's Edition Blu-ray is The People Under the Stairs. The story of the film is a young boy trying to steal a gold fortune from a perfect American family in order to pay for his mothers healthcare needs. Once he gets trapped inside their house he discovers that the family is not as normal as they seem and secret creatures are hidden within the house. Overall the film is a lot of fun but it definitely falls into the love or hate category. This film is fun and sometimes campy, as a result it might not appeal to everyone especially if they are expecting a more straightforward horror film.

The second Blu-ray release of interest for this week was one of two surprise releases from Code Red and it is Sweet Sixteen. This is an entertaining slasher film that follows a girl who moves from the big city to a small Texas town and begins to create a stir with her beauty and attitude. Murders begin to happen and the sheriff is determined to find the killer. Overall this is a solid slasher film that will definitely appeal to slasher fans. Get this release soon as it is limited to 1,700 copies.

The second of two surprise Blu-ray releases from Code Red this week is Trick or Treats. The story of this film follows a man who was wrongfully and purposefully put into a mental institution by his wife so she could live with her new boyfriend. Five years later he escapes on Halloween to pay a visit and kill his wife. When he gets there she is not there but his wife's boyfriend's son and his babysitter is. This film looks like it can be a pretty interesting film to watch around Halloween. Pick this film up soon as it is limited to 1,050 copies.

Another Blu-ray release of interest put out this week is The Monster that Challenged the World from Kino Lobber Studio Classics. This classic sci-fi monster film follows a lieutenant who as to stop a bunch of slimy monsters that have come from under the Salton Sea thanks to a huge earthquake that opens a nest of prehistoric killer monsters. The slimy monsters crave human flesh and begin eating the locals. The lieutenant must do what every it takes in order to stop the monsters otherwise the whole human race can be decimated. Overall this sounds like a campy fun sci-fi monster film with a lot of cool monster action. Worth checking out if you are a fan of monster films, especially the sci-fi monster film classics.

The last Blu-ray release of interest for this week is Dead Silence. This film was directed by the director of The Conjuring, James Wan. Dead Silence is another solid film from that director. In this film the story revolves around the tale of Mary Shaw, who was hunted down and killed in the small town of Ravens Fair, and the horrific deaths that have continued to haunt the town. When his wife is killed a man begins to search for her killer and is led back to his hometown, Ravens Fair. Once there he begins to become entwined in the mystery of Mary Shaw. Overall a solid film with some great suspense and a good story. Worth checking out if you are a fan of the directors other films.
