The first of three releases this week from Scream Factory is Robot Jox. This campy fun robot film is directed by Stuart Gordon. The story in the film is that in the future war has been outlawed and disputes between countries are now settled with a winner-takes-all fight between two robotic killing machines. This sounds like a fun sci-fi action film with a similar story to Pacific Rim but obviously before that film and with a much smaller budget. Overall this film is worth checking out if you are interested in robotic battles.

The second of three releases put out today by Scream Factory is Alien Outpost. This film is about a documentary crew going to an outpost to document daily life for the soldiers there. It is the year 2021 and the world narrowly defeated an alien invasion but now thousands of the aliens were left behind. Outposts were created to defend the planet from the aliens still there. Outpost 37 is in the deadliest area. This is were the documentary crew is film. Overall sounds like an interesting film, but it is not getting the best of reviews. However, it sounds interesting enough to give it a shot as long as you have lowered expectations and enjoy sic-fi action films.

This film is a modern ghost story about a 17 year old boy on house arrest after cyber stalking a classmate. His mother has left for business so he is now alone and it becomes apart that he is now being stalked by someone or something. Overall this film sounds like a decent modern ghost story film so if you are a fan of that genre that this release might be worth picking up. As well, if you are a fan of the IFC Midnight label than you are likely to be interested in this film.

Arrow Video has released Contamination this week. This film is essentially an Italian knock-off of the film "Alien" but while that film focused on suspense and atmosphere, Contamination is focused on upping the gore and effects. As such this film is not as good, but if you enjoy gore filled horror films than there is probably a lot to like in this film. The story of this film is an unmanned ship has landed in New York City and it is filled with deadly alien eggs. This alien eggs in this film explode and any person nearby will then explode. It is pretty obvious what you are getting into with this film so if you enjoy these type of knock-off films that like to one up the films they are copying by amping up the action and gore, this film is for you.

The first of three releases this week from Kino Lorber is Deranged. This 1974 film was based on the true story of Ed Gein. The story of this film follows a rural necrophiliac as he digs up bodies and "restores" them. As his obsession of dead bodies continually escalates it eventually reaches the height of murder. This is a very solid little film that is now a ready for new appreciation and a wider audience. If you are a fan of Pyscho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre than there is a strong chance that you will enjoy this movie.

The second of three releases from Kino Lorber this week is The Crimson Cult. This film is star studded as it stars Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, and Barbara Steele. This film is based on H. P. Lovecraft's Dream In The Witch house. The story of the film is a man is looking for his brother and traces him back to a remote country house. Once there the man finds a menace in the air with the legend of the Black Witch of Greymarsh hanging over everything. So he goes to the town's expert of witchcraft in hopes to figure out what is going on. Overall this film sounds very interesting and features a bunch of top notch actors. Worth getting if you are a fan of these actors or these type of films.

The last of three films released today by Kino Lorber is Truck Turner starring Isaac Hayes. This film is a high octane crime thriller that follows Truck Turner, a football player turned bounty hunter, who is tracking a sadistic pimp in Los Angeles. A tragic accident happens and now Truck is being hunted by the cities deadliest hired killers. This film sounds like a load of cool fun filled with car chases, shootouts, and fistfights. Overall if you are a fan of big action films and/or blaxploitation films that this film is perfect for you.

Out today from Scorpion Releasing is Spasmo. It was directed by Umberto Lenzi and features a score by Ennio Morricone. This crazy film is about a woman who washes up on a desolate beach which then sets off a mysterious chain of events involving the wealthy and mentally unstable Christian, his brother Fritz, and a murderous maniac. This film sounds like a very crazy and perplexing Italian shocker. If you are interested in these types of Italian mystery films than you are likely going to want to check out Spasmo.

From Code Red this week comes Pit Stop. This film had a recent Blu-ray release from Arrow Video but because of some contention from who actually owns the rights to the film, the director or the producer, we also get a release from Code Red. Both releases are very solid with some of the consensus being that the Code Red version has better picture quality, while the Arrow Video version has superior extras. So either release is worth getting and the release for you is dependent on your preferences. Overall this action packed auto-racing film with fit into just about any collection.

A newer title released today by IFC Midnight is The Pact 2. This film picks up a couple of weeks after were the first film ended. The film follows June Abbott as she suffers from nightmares of murder so awful that they disturb her waking life. At the same time a copy cat of the Judas Killer is terrorizing her neighborhood in ways that match the nightmares June suffers from. June is now determined to find the truth about the Judas Killer's master plan. Overall I imagine that if you liked the first film you will probably want to check out this sequel.

The last Blu-ray release of interest for this week comes from Lionsgate and it is Maggie. This zombie human drama stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a midwestern farmer who tracks down his runaway daughter Maggie, played by Abigail Breslin. Maggie is infected and is now a zombie. While most of the world has become situated to the zombie outbreak and now revolves around the quarantine and eliminate philosophy, Arnie is determined to save his daughter. Overall this film has received a lot o mixed reviews that seem to conclude that you have to the right expectations for this film in order to enjoy it. It is not a normal zombie movie or normal Schwarzenegger movie. Rather it is a slower family drama revolving around an infected daughter and her father trying to save her.
