Top Scream Factory Blu-ray Releases

Scream Factory has put out a lot of releases over the past couple of years and what comes with that is a couple questions, where do I start? and what are the top releases? For the answer to the question of where to start check out this list here. The following list is a list of the top Scream Factory Blu-ray releases. The list required a lot of difficult decisions to be made because of the many great Blu-ray releases by Scream Factory to choose from. As a result I wanted to put a limit on the list in order to prevent it from getting too large. I also wanted to focus on titles I think best represent the type of movies and content Scream Factory releases. So the following list of movies are the 5 Scream Factory Blu-ray releases that best exemplify the company and their catalog of releases.

1. Halloween II
Halloween II is easily the most recognizable title released so far by Scream Factory and it is also one of the best. This Halloween II release is pretty much the complete package for a blu-ray release. Not only does this release feature strong video/audio quality and amazing newly commissioned cover art, it also has an abundance of amazing features too like two commentary tracks, a 45-minute making-of documentary, the television cut of the film, and lots more. Overall this is a great release chock full of quality. Worthwhile release for any fan of Michael Myers continued carnage.

2. Terrorvision / The Video Dead
This double feature has two films that both use television sets to unleash their monsters. In Terrorvision a space monster comes into the TV thanks to a giant new satellite system the family bought. In The Video Dead a family gets the delivery of a new TV set and are unaware the TV is really a gateway that killer zombies come out of. They definitely fall in the so bad it’s good category.  Surprisingly for a release of two cheesy films Scream Factory gives a lot of quality special features. Terrorvision comes with a commentary track and a 35-minute making-of documentary. The Video Dead has two commentary tracks and an interview with the special effects artists on the film. This is a splendid release that features two fun movies that are accompanied by some great special features. This Terrorvision / The Video Dead double feature is the perfect release for any fan of cheesy movies and offbeat horror films.

3. Day of the Dead
Another well-known horror film found in the Scream Factory catalog is Day of the Dead. The third installment in George Romero’s Dead series is one of it’s darkest and my personal favorite. I would say that it has a similar feel to The Walking Dead show in that both feature big conflicts between the human characters with the threat of zombie annihilation in the background waiting for the chance to attack. This release of Day of the Dead comes with a wealth of special features that should please any fans of the film and fan’s of the Dead series in general. It contains a feature length documentary on the making of the film and the Dead series as a whole, two commentary tracks, behind the scenes footage from Tom Savini’s personal archives, and much more. Perfect for anyone just getting into zombie films as well as long times fans of the genre.

4. Vincent Price Collection
This box set of six classic Vincent price films is an overload of greatness. The movies contained within in the set consist of The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, The Haunted Palace, and Witchfinder General. Not only does it come with six great Vincent Price movies, it also comes with a bunch of other quality content. All six films in the set have strong video/audio quality and have some great special features. Each film contains at least one commentary and perhaps the coolest feature of all, a Vincent price intro and final words for the films. This set and the movies within are definitely different than the rest of the movies on this list but I do think this release will appeal to most horror fans.

5. Night of the Demons
Night of the Demons is an 80’s horror cult classic that can only be described by two words, crazy fun. I would describe the movie as more of a Halloween horror movie instead of a straightforward horror movie because of the setting and atmosphere. This crazy movie of demon possessions comes filled with awesome special features, as well as strong audio/video quality. The release features a 70-minute making-of documentary, two commentary tracks, interviews, and much more. A perfect movie to watch around Halloween time

What do you think of the list? What would be on your list of top Scream Factory releases?
